BASIC FUNCTION:
Process all daily fee transactions for customers disposing of solid waste at the Borough Solid Waste Facility. Explain pertinent ordinances and policies, and answer questions regarding fee schedules.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
1. Open scale house, bring the computer system on-line, and check the cash on-hand at the beginning of the shift.
2. Using the personal computer and scale software, process all daily cash, charge, and credit card transactions.
3. Balance and close out daily and credit card batch. Backup batch file, prepare deposit, and shut down at the end of the shift.
4. Process all charge transactions and reconcile to ascertain valid customer charge accounts into the system, validate computation of charges applied through the computer, obtain signatures and check for errors on end-of-day computer-generated reports. Respond to customer inquiries regarding current month's accounts receivable.
5. Attendant controls the traffic flow, informs the public about the various programs of the Solid Waste Division to include Recycling/Household Hazardous Waste Facility, Central Recycling Facility, recycling programs, etc.
6. Must be able to handle agitated members of the public in a professional and appropriate manner when enforcing Borough ordinances and Solid Waste Division policies and rates applied to the disposal of waste.
7. Scale house coverage work on weekends and holidays is required.
8. Provide backup support for office position.
9. Perform minor janitorial duties in the scale house.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Three years of general office experience which includes experience handling cash, accounting, and credit functions.
3. Must have experience with computerized accounting systems.
4. Typing, ten-key calculator, and basic personal computer skills at a proficient level.
5. Ability to operate a personal computer for a variety of computer programs (MS Word & Excel required: Database preferred);
6. PREFERRED: Ability to have and maintain a valid driver’s license and to meet insurance standards and maintain insurability under the Borough’s insurance program. If personal automobile is used for Borough business, proof of insurance at statutory limits must be provided. (A CURRENT COPY OF DRIVING RECORD WILL BE REQUIRED UPON REQUEST)

6. Ability to learn solid waste classification system utilized by the Borough.

1. A PROFICIENCY TEST MAY BE ADMINISTERED.
2. This position requires a criminal background check.

Does not supervise; experiences minor problems daily and occasional major ones that must be resolved on own initiative with little immediate supervision; the consequences of error, carelessness or mistaken judgment require normal effort to recover.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Shop area where conditions are somewhat unpleasant with minor accident/hazard probability; disagreeable conditions with undesirable elements or factors on a somewhat continuous basis (position is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, and sensitive odors); requires short periods of light lifting, pushing or pulling (1-25 lbs.).
