We are looking for a Warrant Clerk to support our Police Department Records Division.
This is the entry level class in the Warrant Clerk series. This class is distinguished from the Warrant Clerk II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series including monitoring files and assisting the public in a courteous and professional manner while learning the broader functions associated with the Police Department Records operations. This class may be used as a training class, wherein employees need only limited or not directly related work experience; or the class may contain positions wherein employees perform routine tasks on a permanent basis, and therefore remain at an entry level.
Perform a variety of complex and difficult tasks related to the processing of warrants.
Maintain accurate, complete and current information in warrant records and files.
Operate a teletype machine effectively and efficiently.
Read and understand departmental rules, instructions, and guidelines.
Interpret and apply pertinent laws and ordinances to work assigned.
Performs a wide variety of specialized clerical duties in support of the Police Department Records Division. Processes and files for the timely and complete processing of arrest warrants and related legal documents and the coordination of extradition arrangements. Processes and files documents, answers telephones, interacts with general public, provides general information, maintains reports and files, collects money, and performs complex, specialized clerical duties relative to confidential police and suspect/inmate records. Performs computer entry, retrieval, and maintenance of police records related to warrants and warrant-related activities.

Key Focus of the Role:
(Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following)
Provides information to the public and other parties of the warrant process. Assists the public in completing forms without offering legal advice.
Answers phone and responds to general inquires about various Warrant procedures.
Enters regional and highway patrol citations into computer; prints dockets.
Updates and maintains work program cases; approves clients for enrollment and verifies their completed hours with help of responsible agency.
Uses computer to enter and retrieve reports so that materials can be easily located; searches for and locates missing reports and files; retrieves files and cases.
Interacts with defendants, attorneys and other persons requesting information or documents related to warrants or other related matters.
Qualifications and Attributes:
Education and Experience:
Warrant Clerk I:
High School Diploma or equivalent REQUIRED.
Four (4) or more years of highly responsible office support experience REQUIRED.
Prior experience working in a law enforcement agency.
Continuing education in secretarial science, business or job-related field.
Licenses and Certifications:
Warrant Clerk I:
Must type 40 accurate net words per minute as demonstrated by a typing certificate dated no more than one year prior to the date of application. Copy of typing certificate MUST be attached to your application (REQUIRED)
Must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame.
Ability to receive NCIC certification within six months of hire/reclassification. Certification training will be provided by the employer after date of hire/reclassification.
