This Public Works position is to maintain and repair water and sanitary sewers. Performing, under supervision, skilled journey-level tasks in the construction and maintenance of the County’s domestic, commercial, and industrial water distribution and wastewater collection facilities, systems, and equipment; and perform related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
Depending on the assignment, the incumbent may perform a combination of some or all of the following duties, and perform related duties as assigned:
Assist in the repair or replacement of water/sewer mains, piping, valves, and hydrants.
Assist in restoration work and the repair/preventative maintenance of water and sewage pumps, motors, generators, and other mechanical/electrical equipment.
Assist with the County’s preventative maintenance program on water distribution and wastewater collection mains, lines, equipment, and facilities.
Assist with water main shutdown procedures; assists with installations, repairs, and replacement of core stops, angle meter stops, and curb stop valves under pressure or after main shutdowns; back fills and compacts asphalt and gravel fill to grade.
Assist in the installation, testing, maintaining, and repairing of fire hydrants.
Knowledge Skills Abilities and Education Required
Basic methods, materials, practices, tools and equipment required for water system construction, maintenance and repair.
Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions related to the maintenance and repair of potable water systems and sanitary sewers.
Training in the operation of a variety of construction equipment used in the installation and repair of water facilities.
High school diploma or GED
At least one year of experience in the field of water and/or sewer maintenance and repair.
Basic computer skills.
Possess a valid Class A CDL driver’s license with tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain one within six months of start date, supplemented by a satisfactory driving record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE POSITION
Performs medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, and digging.
Pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
