Position Summary:
The Patient Representative is the first point of contact for patients, family members and other clients. It is their responsibility to provide accurate patient information to internal and external departments within Lake Health. The Patient Representative provides secretarial services I the form of patient registrations, processing of test requisitions, cashiering and acting as a liaison between patient/family/significant other and the physician in a high patient/public contact area. The patient representative must consistently demonstrate the ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible and friendly manner to meet operational needs. The patient representative must display AIDET skills, consistently show respect for patient's privacy, and compassion to all patients and family in a professional manner. The patient representative must understand compliance, medical necessity and the need/completion of ABN'S. The patient representative must be able to support cashiering functions including point of service collections.
Essential Job Functions:
Courteously greet patients, visitors and other clients, determine their needs and direct them to the appropriate person, office or treatment area.
Receive patients, conduct confidential interviews and register patients on computer, verifying information per registration stand of work. Complete patient consent from obtaining required signatures for every encounter and Medicare MSPQ as required.
Demonstrate consistent knowledge of all information system procedures in order to accurately and efficiently perform standard work. This includes transition of patient status in the ADT system, verifying insurance eligibility, completing Medicare compliance, obtaining orders from the document imaging system, scanning necessary documents into HIM and documenting POS collections.
Consistently ask, collect and post patient liability per standard work.
Ensure authorizations are in place for add-on procedures, and based on insurance requirements as required by Lake Health contracts with carriers such as UHC and Kaiser for in-house patients. For tests and admissions missing the required authorization, the patient representative must follow the standard work and notify the appropriate party to obtain authorization.
Maintains an environment to promote safety, efficiency and processing of patients within the work area.
Provide age specific care appropriate to the age of the patient's served, by meeting their physical and emotional needs to complete the registration process.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Education: High School diploma/GED required. Graduate of Medical Assistant program preferred.
License/Certification: BLS preferred.
Experience: 2 years preferred
