The Ankeny Kirkendall Public Library is accepting applications for part-time Library Associate positions.
Perform under general supervision the maintenance and duties of the circulation, children’s, and/or reference area(s).
Starting pay: $19.59 per hour

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Assisting patrons (in person or via computer or phone) in locating and evaluating physical and electronic resources.
Answering phone calls and routing phone traffic to the appropriate staff member or department.
Promoting, scheduling, and/or assisting with the set-up of library events.
Shelving, repairing, weeding, and/or processing of library materials.
Assisting patrons with in-library computer use.
Gathering and recording statistics related to the use of library resources and attendance at library events.
Keeping abreast of changes in library policies and procedures via staff meetings, the staff intranet, and other available resources and events.
Managing disruptions within the library and reporting such events to the director or immediate supervisor.
Assisting patrons in obtaining and managing their library accounts and using library services.
Operating and assisting patrons with fax machines, photocopiers, and all other equipment used by the assigned desk or department.
Maintaining the general cleanliness of personal work spaces and tidiness of public areas.
Carrying out all opening and closing duties required by the assigned desk or department.
All other duties assigned by the relevant supervisor or required by the assigned desk or department.
Entry Requirements and Skills
High School diploma or equivalent.
Ability to work in a frequently fast-paced environment; knowledge of standard office procedures and equipment.
Knowledge of computer applications; basic internet research skills; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions as well as departmental policies and procedures.
Ability to deal tactfully with the public; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
Working Conditions
Works in office environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, both on the telephone and in person.
Hearing: Receiving detailed information through oral communication, both on the telephone and in person.
Standing: With some freedom to alternate between standing and sitting posture, as needed.
Walking: Not for long distances or with greater than low average to average speed, except in emergencies.
Sitting: With some freedom to alternate between sitting and standing.
Reaching: Extending hands and arms in any direction.
Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm.
Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.
