DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves performing mail
service duties in or between county
departments. Work is performed under the direct supervision of an employee
of higher rank. Does related-work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Receives, sorts and delivers mail or packages in or between county
departments;
Picks up and delivers inter-departmental mail, records, supplies and
documents;
Operates a postage meter machine for outgoing mail;
Performs messenger duties such as the delivery of flowers, notices,
announcements, schedules, and parcels;
Substitutes as a receptionist or clerk.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Good knowledge of postal regulations regarding use of postage meters; good
knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment; good knowledge
of business arithmetic and English; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; dependability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
(a) Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a
high school equivalency diploma; or
(b) Graduation from grammar school and four years of office experience; or
(c) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by
the limits of (a) and (b).
