JOB SUMMARY
This position works independently and under general supervision. This position is responsible for representing the University Library to all UC Davis Blaisdell Medical Library (BML) patrons, interpreting and enforcing unit, department, and library policies and procedures. This position is responsible for opening the Library Monday through Friday. Provides reference assistance, instruction on using Library catalogs, databases, and the Request" feature for ILL/DDS, and be responsible for all circulation related services including monitoring, approving, or denying requests for the collaboration room reservations. Ensures e-bulletin boards are up to date. Monitors and processes Reserve requests. Provides minimal support for Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery Services (ILL/DDS)."

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Refile or retrieve books from library stacks, maneuver loaded book truck, lift books weighing up to 15 pounds and pass across a counter; lift boxes of paper weighing up to 30 lbs; reaching, shelving and retrieving books from shelves 5 to 82" high in aisles 42" wide.
Operate a keyboard and read computer screens for extended periods.
Read fine print and handwritten/penciled annotations.
Operate and troubleshoot standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, image scanners, photocopiers and facsimile machines.
Manipulate books and packaging materials for mailing."

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Hours of work scheduled Monday-Friday between 6:45 AM and 3:45 PM.
Staff scheduled at 6:45 AM is responsible for opening the Library.
No eating in public areas of the Library.
This position requires communicating with patrons in person, via email and by telephone.
UCDHS identification badge to be worn at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Library experience and general knowledge of library information resources, functions and procedures.
Experience and skill to navigate e-online systems, catalogs and other data bases essential to Circulation functions; experience with automated Library systems; understanding of bibliographic and serial records sufficient to retrieve online and print records, and to verify citations using the Library’s resources.
Experience using word-processing, spreadsheet and database software programs: Microsoft Word, Excel & Access preferred.
Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills to interact successfully in person and via telecommunication, with a wide variety of people, with an emphasis on providing good customer service ability to effectively explain complex policies; and ability to remain calm and exercise tact and compassion when dealing with difficult individuals.
Writing skills to compose correspondence, training materials, instructions and manuals.
Preferred:
Ability to maintain confidentiality when preparing sensitive material, taking messages, and accessing patron records.
Skills to perform minor maintenance on office and library equipment.
Math skills to compile statistics and perform calculations, report and enter data.
Knowledge of General Library practices, policies, and procedures.
Knowledge of applicable University policies and procedures.
