Description
The City of Norfolk's Department of Libraries is currently seeking a Library Assistant II that assists with the daily operations of the library. Performs administrative duties including typing, filing, ordering supplies, and assisting with events. Provides customer service to patrons by providing information, promoting general usage of facilities, and operating all library equipment.
Departmental Hiring Salary Range: $28,261
Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Assist with the daily operations of a facility
Provides regular coverage of Public Service desks.
Assists patrons with the use of computer, copier, scanners, and printers
Promotes in-person and online library services
Uses technology to meet the needs of library users
Performs circulation/customer service activities by checking materials in and out, reserving material requests, registering new borrowers, and collecting overdue fees
Assists patrons by searching and using all library resources, in print and online
Provides quality customer service in person and by telephone.
Provides basic library information and answers directional inquiries
Assists with maintaining and monitoring KidZone, Playscape and program room as required
Receives, sorts, and shelves library materials
Performs assigned duties as instructed
Must be able to stand up to six hours per shift; lift from ground to above shoulder; push and pull loaded carts; bend and stoop; reach shelves from floor level to approximately 6 feet in height using a step stool in narrow aisles and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity
Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds
Education/Experience
Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
One year of experience in library or related services. Experience in customer service.
Must be willing to work flexible and varied schedules including nights and weekends.
