The City of Keene is seeking a customer service driven Librarian with skills in youth programming, reader-advisory, reference and technical assistance to join our team at the Keene Public Library in the Youth and Community Engagement Division! The part-time Librarian I- Youth will plan and perform story times and other special events for children, teens and parents. While this position will focus on providing services and programming in the Children"s Room and Teen Space, the individual in this role may also work within other library areas including Reference, Adult Services and Circulation!
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
~ Help to plan, create and present annual Summer Reading Club and other special programs involving library promotion and outreach activities.
~ Provide quick reference, readers" advisory and detailed research assistance.
~ Publicize library materials and activities through displays, bibliographies, brochures and social media.
~ Provide both one-on-one and group training in use of the library, the library catalog, reference materials, computer databases and the Internet as needed.
~ Assist patrons with the use of the online library catalog, the library"s subscription databases, downloadable material, and eReaders and other electronic devices.
~ Directs operational activities of library aides, pages, interns and volunteers to ensure delivery of effective library services and programs.
~ Collaborate with other Keene Public Library staff to develop and implement events, classes, workshops, reading programs and new initiatives for people of all ages.
~ Bachelor"s Degree, plus one year of library experience or library training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with children or completing classes in children"s literature and child development required. Graduate level coursework in library science preferred. Knowledge of and support of intellectual freedom and NH privacy laws, and maintaining confidentiality of customer information are required. Must possess excellent public service skills.
Pay and Benefits include:
~ This position offers a schedule of approximately 15 hours per week, with a starting pay rate of $26.29 per hour. The schedule for this position is one weeknight and Saturdays, as well as working some regular daytime hours.
