The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is a large, diverse multi-site department whose mission is to create a healthier world through bold innovation in patient care, population health, education, technology, and research. UC Davis is leading the way in diagnosing, treating, and reducing the burden of disease. Our laboratories are licensed by the State of California, certified by CLIA, accredited by College of American Pathologists (CAP) and AABB and located in three distinct facilities: Surgery and Emergency Services Pavilion (SESP); Pathology Building; and the Specialty Testing Center (STC).

The Hospital Blank Assistant supports this departmental purpose through the functions of timely and accurate specimen receipt, accessioning, preparation and/or processing, and shipping for analysis on various body fluids. tissues, and fecal material – primarily in the Send Outs unit. Functions also include
answering telephones and giving specimen collection information and results, clerical work including filing and record keeping, supply inventory and ordering, glassware maintenance, reagent preparation, equipment, and general area maintenance.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge of laboratory specimen handling, processing, storage and shipping requirements to meet policy, procedure and regulatory requirements.
Knowledge of computer systems such as EMR, email, hospital Incident Reporting system (e.g., RL Solutions), and Microsoft Office Suite.
Knowledge of LIS sufficient to perform specimen inquiry and other functions (batching, test cancellation, printing orders and specimens labels, etc.).
Adequate familiarity with medical terminology (test names, specimen types, patient diagnoses.etc.)
Possess effective verbal communication skills to answer questions from internal and external customers in clear and concise manner.
Possess written communication skills to write clear emails, EMR messages, and reports and to convey Information appropriately.
Special Requirements
Will be required to work rotating holidays, weekends and on-call coverage.
