This full-time ten-month per year position provides general library secretary support for Helena High School. Qualifications include: high school diploma or equivalent; one year of secretarial experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as determined by the district. Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, newsletter publishing, and PowerSchool or other similar computerized facility management software is desired. Prior successful experience working in a library setting and with the general public is preferred. Entry level salary is $17.79 per hour without in district recognized experience and includes a comprehensive benefit package including coverage during the summer break.

Position Title: Library Secretary – High School

SUMMARY: Assist librarians in professional duties as required, such as building category collections for class units, supervising student assistants, and helping library patrons find and use library materials.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
Supervise student patrons and general library operations in daily rotation with librarians and when librarians are unavailable while teaching classes. Provide technical support with collection management: Monitor checkouts and send overdue notices. Enter fines in PowerSchool. Coordinate, ship and receive interlibrary loans daily. Assist with annual inventory of HHS Library materials. Keep track daily of all statistics regarding use of library and computer labs, as well as circulation and collection status. Compile year-end report of use for librarians and principal.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one-year of secretarial experience or training or an equivalent combination of experience and training as determined by the district.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before parents, staff and students.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to pass a typing test at 55 words per minute. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal and mainframe computer and related software. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Patience in dealing with members of the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

The noise level in the work environment is acceptable to this particular environment.
